The Early Years
Pre-School
Students have opportunities to develop their gross motor skills through activities that promote spatial awareness, cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility, and body control.
Primary
The goal of the physical education program include developing a sound body and mind through physical fitness and activity. While students improve their health by developing cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength and flexibility, they also cultivate self-esteem, good sportsmanship, leadership skills, interpersonal relationships and responsible behavior. Basic loco-motor skills are also developed, and a variety of team and individual sports are introduced.
Comprehensive Physical Education for All Students
New Morning School’s Physical Education Program offers a developmentally appropriate experience for all students through diverse activities and quality instruction. It includes individual and group exercises, games, sports, team building, and swimming, emphasizing movement and the use of various gym equipment. The program promotes motor skills, physical fitness, emotional and physical strength, self-confidence, and healthful decision-making in a fun, safe environment.

The physical education program provides the cornerstone for life-long learning and health, and provides the basis for the skill-building necessary for the athletic program and future competitive participation. Half of each class class is spent in strength and conditioning activities. The second half is spent playing games such as capture the flag, ultimate Frisbee, floor hockey, kickball, tennis, dodge ball and lacrosse.
Students participate in activities which lay the groundwork for a lifetime of physical fitness. Team sports are explored as a means to promote collaboration, social skills and self-confidence. All lessons are adapted to the specific skill set of the students, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the students' health in the long-term.
