Wednesday bagel sales add up to over $1,200 for girls’ education globally

The team of Sofia, Mari, Marissa and Scarlett have operated WWEB — Wednesday Women’s Education Bagels — since late October. Proceeds have been sent at various times throughout the year to benefit female students, mostly located in Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Nigeria and countries housing Syrian refugees (Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey).

The organization was co-founded in 2013 by Malala Yousafzai, a Pakistani student and education activist who began speaking out for girls’ education at the age of 11. At the age of 15, she survived an assassination attempt by the Taliban. For her work, she was named the youngest-ever Nobel Laureate.
