Why choose New Morning School | Marisa Downs

Ten years ago, my husband and I discovered New Morning School for our daughter.  As public school teachers, sending our kids to private school wasn’t a decision we took lightly. But New Morning School is exceptional.

Below, I share why we decided it is the best place for our children. Our daughter started in preschool and is a seventh grader. Our son also started in preschool and is in fifth grade. I began teaching here full time in 2012. We love it and think you will, too.

Read on to learn why you should choose New Morning School.

Solid foundation for children to grow

New Morning School’s environment fosters self-confidence.  It is a safe and non-judgmental space.

We don’t have problems with peer pressure, bullying and other common stressors. Our kids’ social and emotional health are nurtured. Students will be ready for whatever comes next in their lives and whatever high school they attend.

We believe in this upfront, foundational investment.

Small classes and low teacher-to-student ratio

Children have meaningful relationships with teachers and aides in the classroom. They get the attention they need and deserve.

The richness of their school experience leads to high academic achievement and a sense of peace and fulfillment.

Strong sense of community

Relationships between students and teachers are long-lasting and stable.

Everybody knows everybody. Children matter and they are important. There is no “falling between the cracks” or getting lost at New Morning School.

Students are respected and loved

They are not widgets on an assembly line. They are individuals with differing learning styles. Students are treated as such.

Strengths are identified, magnified, and multiplied. Weaknesses are addressed with care and support, but do not define the student.

Caring, devoted teachers have autonomy to teach in ways that work best for their students

Unlike other schools, we are not data driven. We don’t give our students busy work, loads of homework, or over-test them.

We know our students. We challenge our students.  Teachers are trusted professionals.

We make learning fun, interesting, and inspire students to be critical thinkers, inventors, and problem solvers.

Family Involvement

Being active in our learning community is part of the New Morning School experience. It demonstrates the importance of your child’s education.

At New Morning School, families know each other, and model how to interact with others. Children grow up knowing adults as people they can trust and talk with.
